Classy New Coffee Shop to
Open
Murder-mystery themed
coffee house “Sufficient Grounds” opens Halloween weekend to provide Jackson
with an extra helping of style.
Owner Digby Gibson announced that he will be opening
Sufficient Grounds on Halloween weekend with a bang: a costume party and a
bounty of prizes.
The opening party will be at 8:00 p.m. of the 31st,
though the café will be open for the entire day.
Prizes of coupons, free pastries, coffee, will be given away
in a raffle. The best-dressed
customer will also receive a mystery prize.
Gibson says that his vision for Sufficient Grounds is a
social location that is “both novel and classy.” He has long dreamed of opening a café, and is excited to
share his unique style of coffee shop.
Sufficient Grounds will be located at 6241 Ganton Street, in
a beautiful Victorian style house.
Its murder mystery theme will be realized primarily in its
decorations and atmosphere, but also in the titles of the menu, such as “The
Murky Night” and “A Stab of Flavor.”
“It’s not going to be your run-of-the-mill coffee shop,”
Gibson explains. “People will come
here for great coffee, but more than that, they’ll come here for the intriguing
atmosphere.”
The idea for the café first came to Gibson and his wife
Sandy while traveling in England.
“We saw all these beautiful houses,” Sandy remembers, “and we thought
how nice it would be to open a shop in an old house.”
With their dream finally coming to fruition, the Gibsons are
wrapping up their final business details.
One more employee position is needed: a night-shift barista.
Sufficient Grounds also promises to be a location for live
music. A staging area for a band
has been set aside, and Gibson hopes to host a diverse variety of local
artists.
“I want Sufficient Grounds to be a place where you can go
and hear the kind of music you don’t get to hear other places,” says
Gibson. In keeping with this
notion, he has booked a local Celtic band to play within the first week of
business.
Gibson has also indicated that Sufficient Grounds will host
a community open mic night every other Friday. The cost to perform is only $1.
The shop will serve a wide variety of coffees, as well as an
array of teas and other hot drinks. There will also be an option to design a
personalized drink that can contain as many as 20 ingredients.
For food, options will include pastries and various kinds of
specialty bread. Gibson also
promises a wide selection of ice cream flavors will be available. “We’re going to have everything from
plain vanilla to rocky road and chocolate cherry,” he says, “and a few mystery
flavors that will keep your taste buds guessing.”
Variety and mystery are the themes of Sufficient
Grounds. The new coffee shop aims
to be a distinct and exciting experience.
Sufficient Grounds has a fully operational website that
provides information about events, live music, and menu choices: www.sufficientgroundsj.com .
